AF3IRM/GABNET LOS ANGELES KICK-OFF 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM WITH WINDOW DISPLAY & UNSPOKEN SPEAK OUT
November 25, 2009 — On International Day Against Violence Against Women, AF3IRM/GABNet in Los Angeles honors women’s stories and voices through a window display of artful images and text. The “Unspoken Speak Out” Display at IMIX Bookstore in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles contains the poems, letters, statements, and photos of over 40 women and men on the topic of gender violence. Contributions range from solidarity statements with women experiencing violence abroad to personal stories of struggle and survival.
During the day, store patrons have the opportunity to contribute to the display by adding their own thoughts and photos. At night, people can see an illuminated display of candles and lights commemorating women and children who have lost their lives to violence. The “Unspoken Speak Out” will be at IMIX throughout the entire 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence, ending on December 10th. All are welcome to visit the display at 5052 Eagle Rock Blvd Los Angeles, CA. For more information about events & activities happening in your area, visit http://16daysofgabnet.tumblr.com/.
